Malo e le lei, on Thursday 15th August, our Tika Māori and Pasifika (TMAP) group Edie Annan 13GR, Charlie Isaac-Adshead 13DD, Anush Narayan 13GR and myself , had the incredible opportunity to visit the University of Auckland. During our visit, we had the chance to learn how to create a 3D map of our local Pixie Stream using the university's advanced computer systems. This hands-on experience not only enhanced our technical skills but also gave us a glimpse into the exciting possibilities that engineering holds.
In addition to our mapping project, we were fortunate to meet with employees from Vector, the electrical company that powers so much of our community. They shared their personal journeys into the field of engineering and their experiences at Vector, offering valuable insights and advice. Their stories were both inspiring and motivating, showing us the diverse paths one can take to succeed in the engineering industry.
This visit was more than just a learning experience; it was a chance for us to see the real-world applications of the skills we’re developing and to connect with professionals who are leading the way in their fields. We left the University of Auckland not only with new knowledge but also with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for what the future holds.
A huge thank you to the University of Auckland and Dr Michael O’Sullivan for hosting us also to the Vector team Anna Mayow (Talent and Development Partner), JY Ou (Graduate Engineer), Diviya Chhagan (Graduate Engineer), Lara Najim (Graduate Data Scientist) and Penelope Goertzen (Graduate Engineer) for sharing your stories and inspiring us to pursue our dreams in engineering and Mr Talamaivao for organizing this event with transport and food.
