Chinese Classes Restaurant Visit

Chinese Classes Restaurant Visit

On Thursday 12th September, after a two-year hiatus, this year’s senior Chinese classes were lucky enough to go on a one-off fully funded trip to Dagu Rice Noodles - on Lincoln Road.

The idea was that we were supposed to order in Mandarin. However, some students opted to just use English instead, as it was a new experience for some of us and nerves were high about saying everything correctly in Mandarin.

Everyone was able to order one main dish and a drink, which we were all more than happy to do for a free lunch! Given that this was a new experience for some of our students, we were thrilled at the variety to get. A favourite dish everyone liked from this visit was the Signature Rice Noodle with Braised Pork dish and a classic Taro Milk Tea.

Just as all the orders were placed, the food and drinks came out. No one was left hungry! Everyone mostly ordered different dishes, ranging from soups to noodle and rice dishes. By the time we had left, nearly all our plates were clean.

All 22 students were enjoying themselves throughout the entire trip, which means that we’ll be looking forward to dining in at another Chinese restaurant next year, even if we must pay for it!

Even though this was a one-off free experience, taking Chinese at Rutherford gives students the opportunity to go along to these kinds of places with their classmates to enjoy learning experiences they might not ever be able to do normally. You won’t regret taking a subject like Chinese, especially when you have a teacher like Miss Hsiao!

Thank you to Tui Tuia | Learning Circle for funding this trip. Thank you to Miss Adeline Hsiao for planning and leading the trip, as well as Mr Tony Stanton and Mr Josh Tagaloa for helping.
