This year, Rutherford College once again marked the joyous occasion of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with a vibrant and lively celebration. The festivities began with an informative and eye-catching display in the Information Commons, which showcased the history, significance, and beauty of the festival, drawing the attention of students.
On Monday, 4th November, several staff members enthusiastically embraced the invitation to dress in traditional Indian attire, adding an extra layer of colour and vibrancy to the day. The highlight of the morning was undoubtedly the delicious spread of Diwali sweets and snacks served during morning tea. The staff room buzzed with excitement as the irresistible aroma of freshly made Murukku, Bhajias, Milk Burfi, Veg Pakoras, Besan Laddus, Kheer, and Gulab Jamun filled the air. New to the menu this year was the ever-popular Masala Chai, which was an instant hit with everyone.
These mouthwatering offerings not only delighted the taste buds but also gave everyone a chance to savour the authentic flavours made by staff members most of who had lovingly prepared the dishes at home. It was a true testament to the spirit of sharing and celebration that defines Diwali. There was also a sari draping demonstration to show how the sari is worn.
Rutherford College’s commitment to celebrating such meaningful cultural events throughout the year continues to foster an atmosphere of learning and appreciation for the diverse cultures that are so prevalent within the school community. The Diwali celebration this year, as always, was a perfect reflection of this inclusivity and joy.
