Junior Speech Competition
The 2023 Junior Speech competition was held on the 21st November. Many staff commented that it was great to see this back up and running again after a break. It was exciting to see the talent that is coming through in our junior school. Students chose some thought-provoking topics for their speeches such as mental health and neurodiversity.
A special mention goes to the impromptu speech section contestants who were only given two minutes to prepare, yet still managed to deliver witty and well-structured speeches. The winner of the general category (year 9) and the people’s choice award was Charlotte Apps and Rohan Prasad was first place in the general category for year 10. Nico Curran and Charlotte Apps place first equal in the impromptu section. Our guest judge, Favour Ukah, was an ex-student at Rutherford and stayed afterwards to give the student participants some tips. Staff members Sandi Perumal and Joel Gilmore also helped out with the judging.
Well done to all the students who participated. It is not easy to get up in front of a group of peers but they displayed the Rutherford value of ‘kairangi’ by striving to be the best that they could be.
