Rutherford celebrated Peace Week for the first time ever in 2024. The Peer Mediators arranged a number of events to promote and celebrate peace. There was an origami crane folding competition. The crane became an international symbol for peace after the bombing of Hiroshima. There is a Japanese belief that if you fold 1000 cranes your wish will be granted. We folded a total of 2405! This was both a house competition and a tutor class competition. The winning house was Tāne Mahuta which folded 892 cranes. The winning tutor class was 11FN who folded 231 cranes. Out wish is for world peace.
We also held a peace poetry competition - the winner is yet to be announced. On Friday at lunch there was a dedication booth where people could make an affirming shout out to a friend or teacher. it was a happy week. Many of the cranes are now on display in the Info Comms.
The Peer Mediators are attending the Peace Symposium this Friday with a number of other Auckland schools.
