On Wednesday 13th November, 19 Year 10 students attended a Taster Day at Massey University in Albany along with our Careers staff and Mr Gilmore, Year 10 Dean.
Around 240 students from different schools around Auckland attended this day. The day was designed to give Year 10 students a glimpse into university life and explore a range of academic and career options through academic sessions. Students were able to choose two different workshops to attend throughout the morning which covered some of the different study areas Massey University offers. These workshops were delivered by Massey University academics and were enjoyed by all who attended. A pizza lunch was provided followed by a quiz and a session on university life with the Future Students team in the afternoon. Our students enjoyed their day and now feel more informed about what university could look like for them should they choose this option. They also had a little time to explore the campus and check out some of the learning spaces within the different buildings.

This trip allowed us to experience two lectures of our choice on topics such as psychology, cross-cultural communications, theatre and social work, followed by an information session about the courses and pathways that the University offers. It was very interesting to see the different parts of the campus and receive an introduction to the material that courses had to offer, and the lecturers were very helpful in explaining the various degrees and careers that particular subjects can lead to.
Becoming acquainted with a university ahead of attending it answered a lot of questions about what student life looks like.
