Do The Right Thing
The only way to get stuff done is to do the work.
People can sometimes default when dealing with struggle, procrastination and overwhelm to look for a quick fix or shortcut to deal with their problems.
The truth is that the quick fix starts to unravel soon enough, leaving us back at square one and, very often, in a worse position than before.
The Inescapable Truth
There is no circumventing the basic, inescapable truth: the only way to get stuff done is to do the work. Nothing can replace the nuts and bolts of sitting down and committing to the task at hand.
All we need to do is to do the next right thing.
Do The Right Thing
“Preparing to do the right thing isn’t doing the right thing. Scheduling time to do the right thing isn’t doing the right thing. Making a to-do list for the right thing isn’t doing right thing although that is a good start.
Telling people, you’re going to do the right thing isn’t doing the right thing. Could a, Would a, Should a, Gonna, But didn’t actually do it.
Even worse, wasting time, beating yourself up for not doing the right thing isn’t doing the right thing. Making fun of others who understand the importance of, and who are already doing the right thing, isn’t doing the right thing.
The only thing that gets the right thing done is doing the right thing.” – Strangest Thing.
My best advice is do what needs to be done and do it now. The best way to prepare for derived grade exams is to use the study and revision guidelines that have been shared with you. If you have not done that thing yet follow this link. This Study Site is a great place to find resources, study tips, how to get organised and view revision sheets for each subject. With the CAA (Common Assessment Tasks) opportunity coming up soon for literacy and numeracy, this is the place to find the best way to study for obtaining those reading, writing and numeracy credits that you will need for NCEA.
Derived Grade Exams
Students in Year 11-13 will be undertaking exams from 17 September to 24 September. You can find the exam timetable here. It is also available on the Rutherford Study Site.
Senior Dance Performance
Our senior students performed on Wednesday and Thursday night. They choreographed their own dance routines and this is used as an assessment opportunity for them. If you were lucky enough to see them you would have seen outstanding performances and a slick transition from one performer to another.
Junior Performance Arts Showcase - 3rd September
Come along to the Performing Arts Variety show featuring our Year 9-11 Dance, Drama and Music students. Special guests - Te Atatu Intermediate Musicians and Rutherford Primary Performers. Please book here. 4pm (Koha) and 6pm show $5 entry fee.
Prefect Applications for Year 12 students
Applications are open for year 12 students who would like to be a prefect in 2025. The applications can be found on SchoolBridge under Permission Slips/Student Forms. Applications close 9 September. Voting will be available on line for year 12 students to vote for their preferred candidate after 16 September.
Student Representative on the School Board
Students in Years 9-12 can nominate themselves as the student trustee on the school board. Nominations close 31 August with voting occurring between 6-16 September. If you are a student who would like to have a voice and speak up for others, have an interest in how schools run then this might be the role for you. The board meet twice a term from 5.30 to 7.30pm in the evening to discuss policies, financial matters, strategic planning and community consultation. Go to SchoolBridge and find the nomination form in Permission Slips and Student Forms, Click Start Form, then choose the nomination form.
