Te Kahu o te Rēhia
This Saturday 23 November, Rutherford College is hosting the local primary and intermediate schools' Kapa Haka competition Te Kahu o te Rēhia. This will be a showcase of kapa haka across schools from Te Atatū, Glen Eden and Henderson. This competition has been running for several years and provides a platform for tamariki across our local schools to hone their performance skills. It is also an opportunity to grow Kapa Haka judges.
Our neighbours, Rutherford Primary, are coordinating this event and we are delighted to be able to provide them with a venue and to support our community. A schedule of performances is provided below. We encourage you to come along. There will be food trucks available.
Entry is $2 a student (5-18years), $5 an adult. Family Pass $10 Under 5s are free. The Performance Schedule is available here.
Please be mindful that the streets around our two schools will be busy on Saturday. We appreciate your support.
Growth Mindset
Intelligence and ability can be developed, it is not finite.
Having a growth mindset leads to a desire to learn and start from where your feet are now in the pursuit of being better today than you were yesterday, today and every day.
We do this by embracing challenges as we understand that we will come out stronger on the other side. Growth mindset people persist in the face of setbacks and are not discouraged by setbacks as you treat failure as an opportunity to grow and develop.
A Growth Mindset recognizes that effort is the path to growth and development, you value the efforts that you make to find the next step. People with a growth mindset learn from criticism. This does not mean that you take all criticism to heart and act on it but that you are willing to listen and look for opportunities to improve.
People with a growth mindset find inspiration in the success of others and do not view success as a competition as they only compare themselves to the best that they can be not to the best that others can be.
The key to life is a positive can-do attitude where we celebrate the wins, the progress that we make. As Master Yoda once “The Force is strong in this one”, I assume he meant growth mindset, that is a super power that everybody can possess.
