Tyra Ibbott Climbs to Success

Tyra Ibbot recently attended the NZ Secondary Schools Climbing Championships, held on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th August in Mt Maunganui. With 150 students in attendance from schools around the country, Tyra was going up against the best of the best!

She came 3rd and won bronze in speed, 3rd in lead, and 4th in boulder and lead overall, which is a combined score. These results alone are an incredible achievement, but even more so considering there is no climbing wall like this in Auckland for her to practice on  It's great to see Tyra back on the podium, following disappointed she faced in the Auckland College Climbing Series. Tyra was in the running for first or second overall, but was unfortunately rostered to work the day of the final round.

Given that she works in climbing, all avenues for a swap did not work out, so she was devastated to not be able to compete and claim a top spot. In true Tyra style, she didn't dwell on it, wished the other girls good luck and got on with facing her responsibilities and went to work.   We are hugely proud of not only her results at the Secondary Schools Nationals, but also her resilience and sportsmanship in overcoming her disappointment to support and cheer on her peers at the College Climbing Series.

Well done Tyra.
