Central East Western Zone Athletics Champs

On Tuesday 5th March, 33 students qualified to represent Rutherford College at the Central Eastern West Athletics Championships. This is the largest cohort that Rutherford has sent to these Athletics Champs in years, and we are so proud of this massive achievement. Despite the slippery conditions and the wind blowing the high jump mats away, Rutherford showed off their talents in 10 different events. 

With over 700 athletes competing on the day, there was tough competition, but each Rutherford student competed to the best of their ability and showed impressive school spirit. A big congratulations to these students who have qualified for Auckland Championships that are taking place on 26th March:

-    Sharlise Barton – Junior Shot Put

-    Timon Boyack – Senior Triple Jump

-    Lucy Day – Intermediate Triple Jump

-    Leona Fan – Intermediate Triple Jump

-    Lorenzo Pearce – Senior Triple Jump

-    Vince Peleseuma – Intermediate Javelin

-    Amy Thomson – Intermediate 3000m Run & 1500m Run

-    Tyler White – Intermediate Triple Jump

-    Kate Wilcox – Junior 200m Dash

Thank you to Mr Matai’a, Miss Maligi and Miss Power for getting up early to drive the students out to Mt Smart Stadium and organising them during the day.
