Wildlife Science Champions Event
Ten Rutherford students were lucky enough to be part of the Mazda Wildlife Science Champions event which was held at the Auckland Zoo on Monday 31 July. The aim of this day was to support young people to explore and discover conservation science pathways together while nurturing lifelong connections with nature. Students were able to explore the Wildlife Science Champions Expo and speak with course providers and professionals working in the sector.
Our students were inspired by speakers who are working in conservation science fields and learnt about the journey that led them to where they are today. Students learned that from Zookeepers to conservation fieldwork experts, and a whole range of other science-based careers, there is something for everyone with a passion for science. We were also given free time to explore the Zoo to look at many of the wonderful animals and their enclosures and chat with Zoo staff and volunteers.
