The following students have achieved great results in their chosen sport.
Amy Thomson has had an impressive year, excelling in multiple sports.
She earned 1st place in the 2000m steeplechase and 2nd in the Open Bike duathlon and orienteering sprint series, along with top finishes in aquathlon, athletics, and cross country.
Notably, she placed 23rd at the NZ Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships, contributing to her team’s 3rd place finish, and secured 9th at the NZ Cross Country Championships in the U16 category. Amy's dedication and versatility have led to standout performances across all her events.
Roma has had an exciting year, with key achievements in cricket and team selections. She was invited to play for the Central District U19 Women’s team and helped secure a second-place finish in the Summer Series U17 Cricket Tournament. Roma has also been selected for the Pasifika Secondary Schools 2024 team and asked to join the U17 Central Districts team. She is actively involved in training for upcoming competitions, including the U19 World Cup and the Cook Islands Cup. Her dedication to the sport continues as she prepares for future tournaments and team events.
Tanner had a remarkable diving season, representing New Zealand and Auckland with impressive results.
He started by competing at the Dubai National Diving Championships in March, where he placed 4th in both the A Boys 1m and 3m events for the 16-18 age group.
In May, he represented Auckland at the New Zealand South Island Diving Championship in Dunedin, finishing 2nd in the 16-18 Boys 1m springboard and 1st in the 3m springboard.
Tanner then excelled at the New Zealand National Diving Championships in July, securing 2nd place in both the 1m and 3m events and 1st in the 14-18 Boys 3m synchro.
She has had a successful year in rhythmic gymnastics, with strong performances in several competitions. At the Counties Manukau Rhythmic Invitational, she placed 2nd overall with top finishes in multiple apparatus. She followed this up with another impressive showing at the Canterbury Champs, finishing 2nd overall and winning 1st place in Clubs. At the 2024 New Zealand Secondary School Rhythmic Competition, she earned 5th overall with standout results in Ball and Hoop. She also took 1st place at the CSA Gymsports Championships in the Level 8 category.
Daniel is an exceptional wrestler who currently wrestles for Club Physical and represents our school at various competitions.
Daniel Lipsham has had an incredible year, absolutely smashing it in the U20 - U125kg weight class. He took home gold at the Hamilton Open, Waikato Championship, Auckland Secondary Schools Open, Auckland Championship, North Island Championship, and even the Australian National Championship. On top of that, he showed his talent on the international stage, finishing sixth at the Journeymen USA tournament. Daniel's hard work and dedication really shine through with these amazing results!
This year, he had an impressive year in volleyball, competing for multiple teams and coaching others. He represented the AMP (Aotearoa Maori Poirewa) men's team, leading them to a first-place finish at the Matariki Cup in the Cook Islands.
He was also selected for the AMP U20 team to compete in Canada but couldn’t attend due to funding. As captain of the WECA U19 team, he helped them place 5th at the Inter-provincial Championship.
He is currently playing for the Waitākere Rebels Rangers team, which is ranked third in the northern zone second division.
Additionally, he has been coaching both the Rutherford College junior boys' teams and volleyball at Te Atatu Intermediate.
He was also selected to compete in the USA next year as part of the Polynesian Volleyball team.
This year, Lennart was selected to represent New Zealand at the U18 Ice Hockey World Championships in Turkey, where he helped his team win the 18U Men Division. As New Zealand's top scorer with 5 goals and 5 assists in 5 games, he was named "Best Player of the Tournament for New Zealand" by the IIHF. In addition to this, Lennart is playing for the Auckland Adult Summer League in the NZBHL, where he leads his team as the rookie top scorer and tops the league’s overall scoreboard.
This year, Cameron showcased his karate skills with standout performances at major competitions. He competed in the 2024 GKR Karate World Cup at Sydney Olympic Park, representing New Zealand in both individual and team events. Cameron excelled in kumite, securing 5th place among 20 competitors in his division. His team also put in a remarkable effort, earning a bronze medal. Earlier in the year, Cameron competed in a regional round-robin kata tournament, where he earned a bronze medal in a highly competitive division, with boys and girls competing together.
Blair had a strong performance in karate this year, notably competing in a regional round-robin kata tournament on March 17th as part of his preparation for the World Cup. The team earned a silver medal, and Blair finished fourth in his individual category. His dedication to the sport continues to shine through as he works towards his goals in both kata and kumite, showcasing skill and determination in competitive settings.
